DHAKA, June 23, 2025 (BSS) – Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam today said practice of poet Syed Alaol's literary works will enrich Bangla literature.

“Discussion on poets like Alaol is essential to revive the lost reading tradition of Bangla literature,” he said while speaking at a discussion on literary works of great Bengali medieval poet Syed Alaol at the Bangla Academy's Poet Shamsur Rahman Seminar Room in the city.

Dhaka University Assistant Professor Md Nazmul Hossain delivered the keynote speech while Director of Bangla Academy's Culture, Newspapers and Auditorium Department Dr Sarkar Amin delivered the welcome speech.

Nazmul Hossain discussed Alaol's reading process, reading style, and why Alaol's literature is relevant in today's society.

Sarkar Amin said Alaol is a poet whose writings are understood in a new way the more one reads them.

Regarding Alaol's theory of translation, he said, "While translating, he would perceive a new creation, he would write in his mind without translating exactly, which is why he is different from everyone else."

Writer and researcher Tahmidul Jami and Jahangirnagar University’s Bangla Department Assistant Professor Mohammad Mamun-or-Rashid also participated as discussants in the seminar.
