One held for assaulting ex-CEC Nurul Huda during arrest

DHAKA, June 23, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Army today arrested Hanif Mia from the city on charges of assaulting former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda during arrest him from Uttara area on Sunday evening.

Confirming the arrest, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Division of police Muhidul Islam told BSS tonight that the process is going on to hand over the arrestee to Uttara Paschim Police Station.

Efforts are underway to arrest remaining others involved in the incident of creating a mob in violation of the law. A general diary (GD) was lodged with the police station on Sunday in this connection.

KM Nurul Huda was arrested from his Uttara residence on Sunday evening following a mob hours after a case was lodged against him and 23 others.

Ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, two more former CECs Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed and Kazi Habibul Awal, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, four former Inspector Generals' of Police (IGPs), chiefs of SB, NSI and DGFI were also made accused in the case.

BNP national executive committee member Md Salah Uddin Khan filed the case with the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Sunday on charges of manipulating the elections in 2014, 2018 and 2024.
