DHAKA, June 24, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today demanded the trial of the three former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs) who presided over the national elections held in 2014, 2018 and 2024.

"The three former Election Commissioners have destroyed democracy and the electoral system through the 2014, 2018, and 2024 elections. These three Election Commissioners are responsible for this. Cases have been filed against them, and accordingly, they must be tried legally," he said.

The veteran BNP leader was talking to journalists as he laid wreath at the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Banglanagar here along with leaders of the newly formed committee of Brahmanbaria district BNP.

Rizvi emphasized that those responsible for night-time voting, those who conducted dummy elections, and those due because of whom election aspirants couldn't submit their nominations must be tried. He, however, added that no one has the right to take the law in their own hands.

Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad was the CEC in the 2014 election while KM Nurul Huda in 2018, and Kazi Habibul Awal in the 2024.

Former CEC KM Nurul Huda was arrested on Sunday evening, hours after the BNP filed a case against him and several others. Following the arrest, police produced him in the court yesterday around 4.10 pm and later the court placed him on a four-day remand.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also questioned the role of the police on the court premises. He asked, "What is the duty of the police on the court premises? Why are arrestees attacked even in their presence? Does this mean the police are not performing their duties properly?"

Regarding the increase in COVID-19 infections, the BNP leader said, "The recent outbreak of coronavirus is increasing. For this reason, we have submitted two demands to the health adviser."

Regarding the upcoming national parliamentary elections, he said, "This government performing as an interim government following the mass uprising. I believe this government will soon announce the election date and provide the people with the opportunity to form a government as per their wish."
