DHAKA, June 24, 2025 (BSS) - The 19th death anniversary of former minister and valiant freedom fighter (FF) Colonel (Retd.) Akbar Hossain, Bir Pratik, will be observed tomorrow.
Akbar Hossain, a prominent leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), died on June 25, 2006.
His family has organized a day-long program including Quran Khwani and special prayers at his residence at House 24, Road 4/A, Sector 5 at Uttara to mark the anniversary.
A memorial meeting will also be held at Cumilla Sangraish Saleha Girls' High School.
Besides, Cumilla District BNP will hold a prayer session at the Jame Mosque in Kandirpar. Commemorative events, including a wreath-laying ceremony and remembrance meeting, will be organized at Col. Hossain's grave in Chitshi, Laksam Manoharganj, under the initiative of Cumilla District and Laksam Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations.
Born on January 18, 1941, Akbar Hossain played a key role in the Liberation War of 1971 and was awarded the gallantry title Bir Pratik.
He was a founding member of the BNP and served in several important cabinet portfolios, including Shipping, Environment and Forests and Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
He was elected to parliament five times.
