56 life sentenced prisoners freed from jail after serving 20yrs in prison

DHAKA, July 1, 2025 (BSS)- The government has released 56 life-sentence awarded prisoners upon completion of 20 years in imprisonment.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Development, Office Prisons Headquarter, Dhaka MD. Jannat-Ul-Farhad confirmed BSS of the matter today. 

He said that the government has recently ordered to release 56 life sentence awarded prisoners, who have completed 20 years of their sentences including remission, under the powers conferred by Section 569 of the Jail Code and Section 401(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. The order to release them was issued under the rule known as the ‘Twenty Years Rule’.
