Abrar’s martyrdom has awakened young generation: Mahmudur Rahman

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman today said Abrar Fahad’s martyrdom has awakened the young generation of the country. 

"Abrar’s fault was that he was very vocal against Indian hegemony. His sacrifice has awakened the whole nation against the then misrule," he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on the 'Anti-Hegemony Day' to commemorate 'Martyr Abrar Fahad's role against Indian hegemony' at Dhaka University's RC Majumder Auditorium.

"We wrote several times but our writing was abstract . . . After Abrar's martyrdom, the youth woke up. And the seeds of the July Uprising were sown subsequently,” he added.

Shaheed Abrar Fahad's father Md Barkat Ullah inaugurated the programme with DUCSU VP Sadiq Kayem was in the chair.

Among others, Humayun Quader Chowdhury, Rezaul Karim Roni, Dr Mohammad Abdur Rob, Elias Siddique Islam, Athayar Hossain, Sharif Osman Hadi, Abrar Fahad's younger brother Abrar Fayyaz and Raihan Salman Rihat also spoke there. 

Speaking on the occasion, DUCSU VP Sadiq Kayem said, “Martyr Abrar has shown us how to fight against hegemony and aggression. Abrar Fahad sowed the seeds of the July Uprising.”

Bangladesh must be built as a complete nation on the basis of consensus, he added.

At the event, Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) displayed Abrar Fahad's painting.
