DHAKA, July 2, 2025 (BSS) – A delegation from Nagorik Oikya met with Chief
Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission (EC) Bhaban today to discuss the party’s request for a change in its electoral symbol.

The three-member team, led by the party’s Organizing Secretary Shakib Anwar, submitted a formal appeal regarding the symbol change.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Anwar said, “We came to discuss our application to change the party symbol. On June 17, we submitted a request to switch from the current 'kettle' symbol to 'shapla' and 'doel'—in that order of preference.”

Anwar noted that the registration process for newly proposed symbols is still ongoing and that the EC has not yet finalized decisions on which parties will receive registration or approval for new symbols.

"However, since we applied first, we believe our application for 'shapla' should be prioritized,” he added.

He further explained that during Nagorik Oikya’s initial registration, the party did not receive its preferred symbol.

“That’s why we submitted the request on June 17 for a change. We are hopeful that, if 'shapla' is accepted as a new symbol, it will be allotted to us based on the priority of our application,” he stated.

Senior Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed was also present during the meeting.
