Seven with huge Saudi Riyals looted from Tejgaon area held

DHAKA, July 3, 2025 (BSS) - Police in separate raids in the capital have arrested seven individuals for their suspected link to mugging around five lakh Saudi Riyal and other foreign currencies from a person in Tejgaon Industrial area on July 1.
   
They also seized 2,69,240 Saudi Riyals worth about Taka 88,84,000 from their possessions.
 
The arrested have been identified as Md. Tuhin (28), an employee of M/s MM Ayat Tours and Travels, Talha Noor (35), Sharmin (25), Md. Shahin Sikder (37), Yasin Arafat (36), Md. Rafiqul Islam (36) and Md. Shuvo Hawlader (25), said a police press release.
 
Police first arrested Tuhin on July 1 as a suspect after analyzing the video footage of the place of occurrence and surrounding areas.   
 
Following information extracted from Tuhin, Tejgaon police and Detective Branch (DB) later arrested six others in raids conducted at different places of Dhaka.
 
A gang of 10 to 12 unidentified criminals stopped a private car with country-made weapons in their hands in front of the passenger shed on the North side of the main gate of the Central Pharmacy under Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in the capital around 6:25 pm on July 1.
 
They mugged 4,91,500 Saudi Riyals, 400 Omani Riyals, 30 Kuwaiti Dinars and 12,350 United Arab Emirates Dirhams, which is equivalent to Taka 1,64,00,000, police said.
 
Later, all the accused divided the looted foreign currencies among themselves and went into hiding.
 
A regular case was registered with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in connection with the robbery.
