RANGPUR, July 4, 2025 (BSS) - Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said fundamental reforms will be carried out for holding fair elections.
“There are several fundamental reforms required for holding fair elections. We have talked about those fundamental reforms. There is a conspiracy ahead of the elections,” he said.
He said the comments while speaking as the chief guest at the massive Rangpur divisional public rally jointly organized by the district and metropolitan units of Jamaat-e-Islami at Rangpur Zilla School Ground this afternoon.
The public rally was arranged demanding four points including trial of all the murderers of the July-August mass uprising, elections after all the necessary reforms and implementation of the Teesta Master Plan.
The Jamaat Ameer said, “We are hearing about election engineering. We want to remind everyone. If anyone is dreaming like the Awami fascist era, then I want to say, with the help of Almighty Allah, we will turn that dream into a nightmare, Insha’Allah.”
He said such a thing will not be allowed to be implemented. There will be no cronyism in the country, no black money game. No coup by the administration. No one should be able to commit any misdeed during the election.
“That is why we are vigilant. We are ready to welcome whoever wins the election fairly with the people's votes. We also want to say that Hasina had all the forces in her hands. They could not hold the power due to the public explosion, they fled,” he said.
The Jamaat Ameer said, “Our movement will continue until fascism is eliminated. Those who have cried for the minorities have looted the resources of the minorities and Jamaat-e-Islami does not accept minorities and majorities in the country.”
“Whoever is born on this soil, they are respected citizens. We promise that according to the constitution, we will stand by the people. They (fascists) became the owners of the people. We will be the servants of the people, Insha’Allah” he said.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “We want to see the light of the shadow of Medina in this Bangladesh. Many people get goosebumps when they hear about Sharia.”
“Because they cannot take bribes or do whatever they want. Then if they rob a woman's honor, they will not have a life, if they steal, they will not have a hand. We want to see the shadow of such a Medina in this country,” he said.
He said Abu Sayeed was an iconic figure of a huge movement. He is the pride of Rangpur. Many were martyred and injured in the mass uprising. Many injured have not yet been able to be provided with proper medical treatment, he added.
“The people of this country want to see justice for those who were involved in these killings. If they are tried, then no one will be able to make any party evil in the future,” he said.
The Jamaat Ameer said, “We see attacks are being carried out in different places. The law enforcement agencies are not being allowed to work. I say to the law enforcement agencies, the state will look into the matter of those who committed crimes in the past.”
“Now, those of you who are in charge, fulfil your responsibility. You will stand by justice, take action against injustice. The people will stand by you and give you strength, Insha’Allah. We will also stand by you,” he said.
He said, “But if we see injustice, we will be the first to protest. Therefore, do not side with the wrongdoer. Do not go against the people. You saw the consequences of going against the people in 2024.”
The keynote speaker at this party’s public rally held in Rangpur after a long 17 years was ATM Azharul Islam, a member of the central working committee who was recently released from prison.
President of Islami Chhatra Shibir Zahidul Islam spoke as a special speaker at the rally.
The speakers were Nayeb Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman, secretary general and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, assistant secretaries general Moulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and Moulana Abdul Halim, Ameer of Dhaka South Nurul Islam Bulbul, Ameer of Dhaka North Mohammad Selim Uddin, central working committee members Principal Moulana Mamtaz Uddin and Professor Mahbubur Rahman, Shaheed Abu Sayeed's father Md Mokbul Hossain and elder brother Md Ramzan Ali, and other central and local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Jamaat-e-Islami Rangpur metropolitan Ameer vice-principal ATM Azam Khan presided over the rally.
From the public meeting, Jamaat's candidates for 33 seats in Rangpur division in the upcoming thirteenth national election were introduced.
