DHAKA, July 5, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel arrested two people with 23 gold bars weighing 3.095 kg and worth about Tk 4.57 crore from Muradgarh Bazar area of Churamonkati Union of Jashore Sadar Upazila.
The arrested have been identified as Ariful Islam (30), son of Abdul Bari of Salta village of Sharsha upazila of Jashore and Md. Mehedi Hasan (25), son of Abdul Malek of Jibannagar, Chuadanga.
Being tipped off, a patrol team of BGB's Jashore Battalion (49 BGB) conducted a drive on the road adjacent to Muradgarh Bazar Bus Stand under Churamonkati Union of Jashore Sadar Upazila and arrested the duo this morning.
After searching their bodies, they seized 23 gold bars weighing 3.095 kg hidden in a special way in their waists and the estimated market value of the seized gold is Tk 4,57,17,915.
Jessore Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui confirmed the arrest and seizure of gold.
During interrogation, they confessed that they were collecting the gold from smugglers in Sadarghat area of Dhaka for sending those to India via Jashore-Moheshpur.
A case has been filed against the arrested persons and they have been handed over to Jashore Police Station.
In this regard, Jessore Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui said that for a long time, BGB has been conducting intelligence and operational activities in the border areas as per a special plan to seize weapons, gold, silver, drugs, dollars, rupees and smuggled goods.
In continuation of this, Jashore Battalion is able to seize various types of smuggled goods by conducting regular operations in the border areas under its jurisdiction.
“Such operational activities of BGB on the border will always continue,” he said.
