5 dacoits remanded for looting foreign currency in Tejgaon area

DHAKA, July 5, 2025(BSS) - A court here today granted different periods of remand to five decoits allegedly involved in a recent looting of foreign currency worth over Taka 1.5 crore from the city’s Tejgaon area. 

The court also ordered to send an accused of the case-Md Arian-to jail considering him as juvenile rejecting his remand prayer.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Ruhul Amin of Tejgaon Shilpanchal Thana produced six arrested accused of the currency looting case and prayed for 10 days remand for each of them. 

Meanwhile, the lawyers of the accused opposed the remand prayers and prayed for granting their bail.

Metropolitan Magistrate Israt Jenefar Jerin, of behalf of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM), granted five days remand to five accused and ordered to send one to jail. 

Among the accused-Abdullah Al Mamun, Md Zahidul Islam alias Sohag, Md Joy Hassan and Md Bijoy were given three days remand each while Md Sabbir Hossain was given four days remand.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police during its four-day drive arrested them from different parts of the capital.

According to the police, the arrested persons along with their accomplices on July 1 looted 4,91,500 Saudi Riyal, 400 Omani Riyal, 30 Kuwaiti Dinar and 12,350 Dirham from a private car owned by MM Ayat Tours and Travels from Tejgaon industrial area. 

The total value of the looted currency is about Taka 1.65 crore. A case was filed with Tejgaon Shilpanchal Thana on that day in this connection.
