Mother of Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman passes away

DHAKA, July 6, 2025 (BSS) - Professor Mahmuda Begum, noted educator and mother of Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman, passed away in the early hours of today due to old-age complications.

She was 87.

She breathed her last at 5:15 am at Insaf Barakah Kidney Hospital in the capital's Moghbazar area.

Professor Mahmuda Begum is survived by her only son Mahmudur Rahman, daughter-in-law Firoza Mahmud, younger sister Monira Mahmud, and a host of relatives, admirers, and former students.

A respected educator, Mahmuda Begum taught Bengali at several reputed institutions, including Chittagong Government Commerce College, Cumilla Victoria College, and Government Titumir College.

She also served as the vice-chairman of Amar Desh Publications.

She will be laid to rest at Jurain Graveyard here beside her father's grave following namaz-e-janaza.
