DHAKA, July 6, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad (BSPP) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Professor Mahmuda Begum, former president of the organization and mother of Dainik Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman.

In a press release issued today, BSPP Convener Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and Member Secretary Kader Gani Chowdhury conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased.

The statement highlighted Professor Mahmuda Begum's six-decade-long dedication to education and her role in shaping an educated nation.

"Her passing is an irreparable loss to the country," the BSPP leaders noted.

They also criticized the previous Awami League government, describing it as "fascist," and alleged that Professor Mahmuda Begum faced harassment and mental torture through false cases because of her relationship to Mahmudur Rahman.

"She carried the burden of these injustices until her last days," the statement said.

BSPP leaders prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended their deepest sympathies to her family, admirers, and well-wishers.

Professor Mahmuda Begum breathed her last at 5:15 am today while undergoing treatment at a city hospital with old-age complications. She was 87.

She is survived by her only son Mahmudur Rahman, daughter-in-law Firoza Mahmud, younger sister Monira Mahmud, and a host of relatives, admirers and former students.

A respected educator, Mahmuda Begum taught Bengali at several reputed institutions, including Chittagong Government Commerce College, Cumilla Victoria College, and Government Titumir College.

She also served as the vice-chairman of Amar Desh Publications.
