Navy hands over 340 houses to local administration in Sandwip

CHATTOGRAM, July 7, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Navy today officially handed over 68 barracks houses built for the homeless people in Urirchar of Sandwip upazila to the local administration.

Bangladesh Navy constructed these barrack houses under the direct guidance of the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan and the overall supervision of the Armed Forces Division, said an ISPR press release here. 

Each barracks has five units, totaling 340 houses. Each of which has been built to accommodate a homeless family and each barrack has separate kitchen and bathroom facilities. 

These newly constructed barracks of the Navy were handed over to the executive officer of Sandwip by the representative of the Navy on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff in the presence of local dignitaries.

Under the Ashrayan-2 project, Bangladesh Navy completed the construction of a total of 4,560 barracks houses under 233 projects in Bagerhat, Bhola, Pirojpur, Barguna, Barisal, Jhalokati, Chattogram, Noakhali and Cox's Bazar districts and handed over to the local administration. 

A total of 34,165 homeless families have been sheltered in these barracks, the ISPR release said adding Bangladesh Navy is determined to contribute to such public welfare activities of the government and service to the country in future as well.
