DHAKA, July 10, 2025 (BSS) - A couple and their minor daughter sustained critical burn injuries in a fire that broke out early today at a six-storey building in the capital's Jatrabari area.

The victims were identified as Ripon, 40, his wife Eti, 30, and their four-year-old daughter Rafia. Ripon hailed from Naria upazila in Shariatpur district.

The fire broke out around 1:45am on the ground floor of the building located on Shaheed Farooq Road, Duty Officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan of Jatrabari Police Station told BSS.

They were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka in critical condition around 2am, he added.

"All of them suffered burns to their airways and remain in critical condition," said Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the institute's emergency department.

According to the doctor, Ripon sustained 70 percent burns, Eti 45 percent, and Rafia 90 percent.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Rashes Al Amin of Jatrabari Police Station told BSS the fire might have originated from accumulated gas, possibly ignited while lighting mosquito coils.
