PBI rescues two expatriates held hostage in Libya

DHAKA, July 10, 2025 (BSS) – The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) rescued two Bangladeshi expatriates after 41 days of their abduction in Libya and arrested two persons from Rajshahi and Bagerhat districts. 
 
Due to the intense efforts made by the PBI personnel, the kidnappers left the victims Alamgir Hossain (45) and Siraj Uddin (35) near Zilzia Hospital in Tripoli area of Libya on February 18 last after kidnapped  from a workshop at Jamajitan area under Tripoli in Libya on January 8 last, said a press release. 
 
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) took the victims under their custody and sent one of them Alamgir to Bangladesh under supervision of BRAC migration. 
 
The PBI took Alamgir into custody from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport soon after his arrival in Dhaka from Libya. 
 
All efforts are being made for bringing back another victim Siraj Uddin.
  
In order to collect the ransom, they brutally tortured them physically and threatened to kill them if they did not pay the ransom quickly. 
 
Upon receipt of the threats, the families of the victims sent TK 5.50 lakh in two times as the kidnappers demanded TK 22 lakh from each as ransom for their release.  
  
Abdul Khalek, elder brother of victim Alamgir filed a case with Adabar Police Station in this connection on January 29 in 2025.
 
The PBI was given charge of investigating into the case and arrested Md Rasel Haque, 25, from Karaitola intersection under Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi Metropolitan area on January 30 last and Md Mintu Farazi, 39, from Morolganj area of Bagerhat district on February 16,  2025.   
 
The duo were detained as their involvement in the kidnap  were found and both of them were relatives of two masterminds of the abduction of  Libya expatriates Bangladeshis Kamal Hossain and Nazrul Islam,
 
Kamal is a maternal uncle of detained Rasel and Nazrul is husband of a niece of the detained Mintu.
