5 of a family burnt in Sonargaon gas explosion

NARAYANGANJ, Sept 4, 2025 (BSS) – Five members of a family, including three children, sustained severe burn injuries in a gas explosion at their residence in the Kanchpur BSCIC Industrial Area under Sonargaon upazila of the district this morning.

The victims are currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

The injured have been identified as Manab Chowdhury, 40, his wife Bacha Chowdhury, 38, and their daughters Tinni, 12, Munni, 14, and Mauri, 6, hospital sources confirmed.
Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, a surgeon at the institute, said Manab sustained 70 percent burns, while Bacha received 45 percent, Mauri 36 percent, Munni 28 percent, and Tinni 22 percent burn injuries.

Jahangir Alam, Senior Station Officer of Kanchpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said that according to a preliminary investigation, the explosion was caused by accumulated gas from a leak in the kitchen’s cylinder line.
