NARAYANGANJ, Dec 6, 2025 (BSS) - Four people, including a minor girl, of a family were burnt in a horrific explosion due to a gas stove leakage in Sonargaon of the district on Saturday morning.

The victims Alauddin, 35, his two daughters Shifa Akhter, 14, and Shimla Akhter, 4, and his mother Zarina Begum, 65, were immediately rescued by neighbors and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.

Alauddin’s sister Salma Akhter said the family lived in the rented house. “In the morning, there was a loud explosion in the kitchen, and all of them were badly burnt. Fortunately, the neighbors managed to rescue them quickly,” she said.
Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the Burn Institute, confirmed that the victims are receiving treatment.

“Alauddin has sustained 40 percent burns, Shifa 12 percent, Shimla 30 percent, and Zarina Begum 20 percent burns. They are currently admitted to the ward and receiving necessary medical care,” he said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the gas leakage that led to the explosion.
