Banned polythene seized in DoE's nationwide drives

DHAKA, Sept 4, 2025 (BSS)-  The Department of Environment (DoE) today conducted simultaneous mobile court drives across the country against banned polythene.
 
In Naogaon and Nilphamari districts, two mobile courts were conducted against the production, sale, supply, and marketing of banned polythene. 
 
A total fine of BDT 2,800 was realized, and 16 kilograms of banned polythene were seized in three cases.
 
 On the same day, eco-friendly jute bag sales outlets in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka were inspected to encourage the public to use jute bags instead of polythene. Awareness leaflets were also distributed at markets and supermarkets.
 
In Kakrail, Dhaka, a mobile court fined BDT 17,000 in five cases against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke.
 
Four mobile courts in Jamalpur, Manikganj, Thakurgaon, and Pirojpur districts imposed a total fine of BDT 15,800 through thirteen cases, while several drivers were cautioned.
 
Additionally, mobile court in Bosila, Dhaka, fined BDT 13,000 in two cases for air pollution caused by construction materials. Nearby establishment owners were also cautioned.
 
The Department of Environment has announced that such enforcement drives will continue on a regular basis.
