Consultation meeting on reforms of NHRC Act held in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 06, 2025 (BSS)- Divisional consultative meeting on the reforms of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Act-2009 was held at a hotel here yesterday. 

The meeting was jointly organized by Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs wing of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, Swedish Embassy in Dhaka and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). 

The day-long consultative meeting was attended by the government officials, representatives from the civil society, lawyers, academicians and the media persons.

Chaired by the Additional Secretary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs wing Dr Mohammad Mohiuddin, Secretary to the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs wing Dr Hafiz Ahmed Chowdhury was present at the meeting as the chief guest.

Senior Rules of Law Adviser of the UNDP-Bangladesh Romana Shoaigar gave the inaugural speech at the meeting where Joint Secretary of the Legislative wing SM Shafayet Hossain presented the keynote speech and Deputy Secretary of the wing gave the vote of thanks.

Secretary to the Legislative wing Dr Hafiz in his speech said that the NHRC would be made stronger by amending the NHRC Act-2009 and it would be a milestone for protecting the human rights in the country if it is reformed through the participation of all.

The UNDP Adviser Romana Shoaigar said that the consultative meeting must be an inclusive one for amending the NHRC Act to make the commission independent, accountable and pro-people.
