Jubo League, Chhatra League leader arrested in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 08, 2025 (BSS) - Police in separate raids arrested a Jubo League Leader of Nilphamari and a Chhatra League leader of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) from different areas of the city on Sunday night.

The arrested persons are Shahid Mahmud, general secretary of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila Jubo League and former chairman of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila Parishad and Abu Saleh Nahid a BRUR unit leader of the banned organization Chhatra League.


Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Md Ataur Rahman told BSS that Jubo League leader Shahid Mahmud was arrested from the city's Dhap Bazar area on Sunday night.
 
"Shahid Mahmud has been arrested in a case filed against him at Nilphamari Sadar Police Station on charges of attacks and killings of students and the public participating in the anti-discrimination student movement," OC Ataur said. 

Shahid Mahmud, son of late Anis Uddin Ahmed, in Thanapara area of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila. He was handed over to the Nilphamari Sadar Police Station today. 

Meanwhile, police have arrested BRUR unit Chhatra League leader Abu Saleh Nahid in a case filed by the university administration for attempted murder, assault, vandalism and arson during the anti-discrimination student movement. 

"We arrested Nahid, a 12th batch student of the Department of Statistics of BRUR, from the city's Khamar Mour area on Sunday night," said Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat Police Station OC Mohammad Shahjahan.

Nahid, son of Abu Taleb, Panthapara area of Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha district.
     
"Abu Saleh Nahid will be produced in court today (Monday)," OC Shahjahan added.
