Nine ex-ministers, MPs virtually appear before metropolitan court

DHAKA, Sept 08, 2025 (BSS) - Nine former ministers and lawmakers, including Anisul Haque and Hasanul Haque Inu, were virtually produced before a court from jail today in connection with various murder and attempted murder cases relating to last year’s July Uprising.

They were produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, and the court accepted their appearance in connection with the cases.

The other accused who virtually appeared before the court are: former minister Faruk Khan, former state minister Kamal Ahmed Majumder, former deputy minister Abdullah Al Jacob, former lawmakers Sadeq Khan, Morshed Alam, Golam Kibria Tipu, and former chairman of Exim Bank Nazrul Islam Majumder.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the prosecution wing of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mainuddin Chowdhury told BSS that former law minister Anisul Haque and Jatiya Party lawmaker Golam Kibria Tipu appeared before the court in a murder case lodged with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana, while former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu was virtually present before the court in a murder case filed with Dhanmondi Thana.

Former state minister Kamal Ahmed Majumder was virtually present before the court in connection with two murder cases registered with Dhanmondi and Adabar Thanas, the ADC said, adding that Sadeq Khan, Morshed Alam and Faruk Khan virtually appeared before the court in connection with a murder case filed with Dhanmondi Thana.

Meanwhile, former deputy minister Abdullah Al Jacob was virtually present before the court in connection with a murder case filed with Rupnagar Thana, and Nazrul Islam Majumder appeared before the court in connection with two cases filed with Dhanmondi and Jatrabari police stations.
