THAKURGAON, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today extended his thanks and gratitude to interim government’s chief adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for his firm stance on holding the upcoming national parliamentary election.

He said, "Prof Dr. Yunus has very firmly announced that the election will be held in the first half of February 2026. He also said that no power excepting Allah can move him from this decision. For this, I am expressing my sincere thanks and gratitude to him."

Mirza Fakhrul made the comments while speaking at the biennial council of the Thakurgaon district BNP at the field of Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School here today.

"At the same time, I also thank and express gratitude to all those political parties which have chosen the path of democratic transition through this election process," he added.

Mentioning that the people of the country are eager waiting for the national election, the NBP Secretary General said, "Even after the announcement of time frame for the election, a certain group is repeatedly trying to destabilize the country. The nation is eager to form an elected parliament now."

"Those who think they will benefit from a delay should have their misconception shattered. This will not benefit the people of Bangladesh. We must be vigilant at every moment,” he added.

Referring to those who killed Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman are now planning to kill democracy, Fakhrul said, "After 15 years of desperate struggle, a democratic environment has returned to the country. Although an opportunity for a transition to democracy has been created, those who killed Ziaur Rahman in the past are now conspiring to kill democracy again."

Urging everyone to remain united, the BNP Secretary General said, "The conspiracy has not ended yet; conspiracies are being made in various ways. We must remain united. No one should be able to become an obstacle in the path of democracy."
