DHAKA, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - Police have so far arrested 18 people on charges of demolishing the shrine of Nurul Haque, known locally as Nural Pagla, torching of his exhumed body and attacks on policemen in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district.

Among the arrestees is local mosque imam Latif, who had been in hiding since the September 5 incident. He was arrested from a Manikganj char early this morning.

According to the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser, 18 suspects were apprehended for vandalising police vehicles, demolishing shrine, engaging in clashes, committing murder, looting properties, exhuming body from grave and setting it on fire.

On Monday night, a murder case was filed with Goalanda Ghat Police Station by Md Azad Molla, 55, father of a victim who died in clashes linked to the incident.

Earlier, on September 5, several hundred people under the banner of Iman-Aqeedah Rokkha Committee stormed the 'darbar sharif' of Nural Pagla after Juma prayers, exhumed his body and set it ablaze.

The violence triggered sporadic clashes between his followers and local residents, leaving one person dead and many others injured, including a journalist.

Sub-inspector Selim Molla filed a case early Satutday with Goaland Ghat Police Station accusing 3000 to 3500 unidentified people on charges of attacking police, obstructing police from performing government duty, vandalising government property and arson.
