Ex-DIG Nahidul Islam sent to jail

DHAKA, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS)- A court here today sent former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police AKM Nahidul Islam to jail in connection with a case filed with International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police produced him before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Dilruba Afroz Tithi and prayed for confining him in the jail till the end of the investigation of the case. 

The court after hearing the statement of the prosecution ordered to send him to jail.

A case against Nahidul Islam was filed with the ICT on the allegation of killing a son of local Jamaat-e-Islami leader when he was serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Merherpur district.

The ICT on August 19 issued warrant of arrest against Nahidul Islam and instructed the police to arrest him. 

A team of the DB arrested him from his Eskaton residence in the small hours of today.
