DHAKA, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS) - Renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen has been placed under intensive medical supervision under a six-member medical board as her condition deteriorates.
This afternoon (Saturday), her son Imam Nimeri Upal informed the media that his mother's condition has worsened and is now described as "critical."
Earlier two days, she had been placed on life support.
Farida Parveen has been battling kidney complications for a long time. In recent months, her health conditions deteriorated to the point where she required dialysis twice a week.
On September 2, as part of her regular treatment, she was taken to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali. However, following the dialysis session, her condition worsened, prompting doctors to admit her to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
On Wednesday, her condition further deteriorated, leading doctors to place her on a ventilator.
Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, Managing Director of Universal Medical College Hospital, said, "Farida Parveen's kidneys and brain have stopped functioning. She has lung complications, irregular heartbeat, and sepsis has spread throughout her body. Due to low blood pressure, dialysis cannot be administered at this time."
"A six-member medical board has been formed to oversee her treatment. She is currently under 72-hour observation."
Farida Parveen began her musical career in 1968 as a listed Nazrul Sangeet singer with Rajshahi Betar (radio). In the early 1970s, she gained popularity through patriotic songs. She later received training in Lalon music from the spiritual artist Moksed Ali Shah.
In recognition of her contributions to music, Farida Parveen was awarded the prestigious Ekushey Padak in 1987. In 2008, she received the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize from the Government of Japan. She also received the National Film Award in 1993 for Best Female Playback Singer.
She founded a music school named "Achin Pakhi School" dedicated to teaching Lalon songs to children.
