Chhatra Shibir extends financial assistance to journalist Shibli's family

DHAKA, Sept 12, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir (BICS) has extended financial assistance Tk 2 lakh to the family of Channel S journalist Tariqul Islam Shibli, who tragically passed away from a stroke while on duty covering the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections on September 9.

Newly elected DUCSU leaders and central BICS leaders paid a visit to Shibli's residence on Madhumita Road in Tongi on Friday night. The delegation met with the bereaved family, inquired about their wellbeing, and handed over the financial assistance in cash.

BICS central President Zahidul Islam, DUCSU's newly elected Vice President and BICS central Publication Secretary Abu Shadik Kayem, General Secretary SM Farhad, Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah, and BICS Gazipur city unit President, among others, were present.

Tariqul Islam Shibli is survived by his wife and two young daughters -- four-year-old Ayat and one-and-a-half-year-old Azmeen -- along with extended family and numerous well-wishers.

During the visit, DUCSU leaders expressed their commitment to support the family in the days ahead. 

Speaking to BSS, Shibli's wife expressed her gratitude upon receiving the assistance from the student leaders.
