CUMILLA, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organizer (Southern region) Hasnat Abdullah today urged students to pursue their own dreams rather than follow the expectations of their parents or elders.

"What you want is real. What your parents want or what your grandfather wants is not important," he said at a career guidance and meritorious students' reception programme organized by the Debidwar Publician Association at the Debidwar Upazila Parishad Hall in the district.

Hasnat Abdullah said, "Not everyone needs to study in a university or get an A plus. Every person's path to success is different."

He added, "It is not a crime if you do not like to study, but it is essential to be a good person. Some are good at cooking, some at drawing, some can sing - these can also be professions. The important thing is to find your own abilities and interests. Forcibly imposed education or career only destroys potential."

Highlighting the importance of humanity and morality, he said, "Whatever we are - doctor, engineer, artist, or anything else - we should at least be someone who does not cause pain to another. Even if we cannot help others, at least we should not harm them."

Quoting the Holy Quran, he said, "To achieve any goal, one must resort to prayer and patience. Real success is possible only through these two forces."

He further stressed that every individual has unique abilities, and society can progress only by recognizing and nurturing these talents.

"Self-exploration and self-awareness are needed first of all," he said.

The programme was presided over by Md. Zillur Rahman, president of Debidwar Publician Association, and moderated by general secretaries Md. Shariful Islam and Zarin Anan.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Khorshed Alam of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Debidwar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Abul Hasnat Khan, Publician Association founding president Saiful Islam, and former president Iaz Mahmud also spoke on the occasion.

Teachers from various schools and colleges of the upazila were also present at the event.

Crests and certificates were awarded to 150 students from Debidwar who achieved GPA-5 in their examinations.
