DHAKA, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Navy, in a joint drive with police, has detained a drug-dealing couple in Bhola’s Borhanuddin upazila, seizing yaba tablets, cash worth over Tk 3.59 lakh and mobile phone sets.

The operation carried out late Friday night as part of the Navy’s ongoing anti-drug and anti-crime campaign, brought relief to locals who said the couple had long been involved in narcotics trade in the area.

“As part of its continuous drives against drugs, terrorism and criminal activities in designated areas, the Bangladesh Navy in collaboration with police conducted an operation in Bhola on Friday night,” said an ISPR release here today.

The raid took place at Kachia Union under Borhanuddin upazila, where the joint team targeted the Chokdush (Chowkidar Bari) area—long known as a hub for narcotics trading.

During the operation, law enforcers detained two identified drug dealers—Md. Shahid and his wife Taslima—who had allegedly been running the trade for years.

Upon searching their residence, the team recovered yaba tablets, two mobile phone sets, and Tk 359,210 in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug dealings.

Locals told reporters that the couple had been controlling the yaba trade and distributing other illegal drugs in the locality for an extended period, creating unrest and social problems.

Their arrest, they said, has brought much relief to the people of the area, who demanded exemplary punishment to ensure justice and deterrence.

After primary interrogation, the detainees along with the seized yaba, cash and mobile phones were handed over to Borhanuddin police station for further legal proceedings.

In line with the government’s directives, the Bangladesh Navy will continue its intensified operations and patrols in coastal and designated areas to recover illegal arms and stamp out drug trafficking, terrorism and criminal networks.
