Ex Banshkhali upazila parishad chairman Khorshed held in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 14, 2025 (BSS): Police have arrested Khorshed Alam, former Chairman of Banshkhali Upazila Parishad and the labour affairs secretary of the Chattogram South District Awami League.  

He was wanted in several criminal charges including violence and arson during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
 
The arrest was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC), Kotwali Police Station Md. Abdul Karim, who stated that Khorshed was detained from Cheragi Pahar area of the city on Saturday night.
 
According to police, Khorshed  Alam faces at least six cases for attacking students protest that resulted in violence  and setting fire on a hospital during the July Uprising last year. He had been evading arrest since filing of the cases  against him.

Khorshed Alam was elected as  Chairman of Banshkhali Upazila Parishad on June 5, 2024. However, he was removed from the post on August 18, 2024, by the Ministry of Local Government through a notification.
 
Banshkhali Police Station OC Saiful Islam said that Kotwali Police arrested Alam in one of the cases. The moment he is produced before the court, application will be submitted regarding the case as well as a remand prayer will be placed .
