Ex-NBR member Motiur, his wife taken on one-day remand

DHAKA, Sept 14, 2025(BSS) - A court here today granted one-day remand to former member of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Motiur Rahman and his wife former Chairman of Raipura upazila parishad Layla Kaniz for interrogating them in connection with a corruption case.

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) earlier filed a case against Motiur Rahman, who became controversial after buying a goat for his son on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha in 2024 and his wife Laila Kaniz.

According to the court sources, Motiur and his wife were taken to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Monirul Islam from Dhaka Central Jail by police. 

Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC Sabikun Nahar prayed for granting their three days remand for each. The court in presence of the accused after hearing on the remand prayers granted one-day remand for each in connection with the case. 

The ACC filed a case against Motiur and his wife for acquiring illegal wealth worth about Taka 53,41,00,000 and suppressing asset and properties worth about Taka 2.45 crore.

According to the ACC officials, Motiur Rahman and his wife in their tax return suppressed information of wealth worth about Taka 2,45,34,611 and provided false and baseless information with an ulterior motive. 

They also in connivance with each other embezzled illegal wealth worth about Taka 52,41,38, 393 through corruption and criminal misconduct, the ACC officials added.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the couple from Basundhara Residential Area on January 14 last.
