BBA, Omera renewable energy sign agreement

DHAKA, Sept 14, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) and Omera Renewable Energy Limited today signed an agreement for installation of solar systems in the service areas of Padma Bridge.

Chief Engineer Kazi Md Ferdous of Bangladesh Bridge Authority and Chief Executive Officer of Omera Renewable Energy Limited Masudur Rahman signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides at conference room of BBA. 

The agreement was signed following adviser of Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Dr Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan’s instruction.

As per the instructions, a team of the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) conducted a feasibility study to identify potentiality of solar energy on roof of the service area of Padma Bridge. 

According to the survey report, the Padma Bridge has a capacity to generate 6,033 kWp from its three service areas. Of which, service area-1 will be able to produce 1,966 kWp solar energy, service area-2, can generate 2,948 kWp and service area-3 can produce 1,119 kWp.

According to the agreement, the work will be completed within the next 6 months (March 14, 2026) and the agreement value is Tk 23.58 crore for the project.

Senior officials of bridge division and BBA were present at the contact signing ceremony.

According to Renewable Energy Policy 2025, the government has set a target of meeting 20 percent of the total electricity demand from renewable sources by 2030 and 30 percent by 2040. 

In this context, the power division formulated the 'National Rooftop Solar Programme' to ensure energy security and give priority to renewable energy. 

In line with the programme, the initiative was taken to install solar power systems in the service areas of the Padma Bridge. 

Through the system, electricity bill will be adjusted through net metering system, which will be saved.
