DHAKA, Sept 15, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed former Nilphamari-3 lawmaker Saddam Hossain Pavel on a two-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Dhaka College student Mazedul Islam during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement last year.

Metropolitan Magistrate M Mezbah Ur Rahman passed the order after a hearing.

Saddam Hossain was arrested from Lalmatia in Mohammadpur on September 4. A day later, Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra sent him to jail. Later, the investigation officer sought a seven-day remand, and the court set today for the hearing.

According to the case statement, Saddam allegedly opened fire aiming to kill students in the capital's New Market area on August 2, 2024, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Several students, including Dhaka College student Mazedul Islam, Mehedi Hasan and Eden College student Shammi Akhter, sustained injuries in the attack.

Following the incident, Mazedul's cousin filed the case with New Market Police Station on August 26, 2024.
