66 including Fakhrul, Abbas, Gayeshwar, Khasru acquitted in explosive case

DHAKA, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today acquitted 66 people, including BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, in a case filed under the Explosives Act with Ramna Police Station.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order after taking into cognizance the final report of the police.
 
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, vice-chairmen Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Ahmed Azam Khan, former home minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel and Moazzem Hossain Alal were acquitted from the charges in the explosive case.

Others acquitted are BNP chairperson's adviser Joynal Abedin Faruk, BNP leader Engineer Ishrak Hossain, international affairs secretary Barrister Nasir Uddin Asim, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Fazlul Haque Milon, SM Rabiul Islam Nayon, Tabith Awal and Zahir Uddin Swapon, among others.

Advocate Zakir Hossain Jewel, counsel for Mirza Fakhrul confirmed the matter to BSS.
 
According to the case statement, Sub-Inspector Awal filed the case with Ramna Police Station on October 31, 2023, against 66 accused including the BNP leaders for allegedly exploding crude bombs during an illegal gathering in front of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's office on Pioneer Road and setting fire to a motorcycle at Segunbagicha Kitchen Market on October 28, 2023.

On September 21 this year, the investigation officer submitted the final report before the court recommending their acquittal. The court had fixed today for passing the order.
