DHAKA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - Former captain of the national football team and convener of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Aminul Haque today said sports should be given due importance to build the future generation as a healthy nation.

He made the remark while inaugurating the sports festival organised to mark the 71st founding anniversary of the National Press Club in the capital.

The former national goalkeeper said that if the BNP is elected by the people in the future, it will make at least five sporting events mandatory in the education curriculum.

Aminul Haque said that through this initiative, it would be possible to discover hidden talents across the country. The BNP Sports Affairs Secretary also mentioned that this programme would help strengthen the pipeline in those sports disciplines.

More than four hundred competitors are participating in six events. The festival will conclude on October 19.

National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, sports sub-committee convener Shahnaz Begum Poli, and other members of the club were also present on the occasion.
