Navy seized trawlers, fishing nets, fish worth TK 19 crore

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Navy seized huge quantities of unauthorized fishing nets, fish  and trawlers worth about TK  19 crore in Cox’s Bazar and Kutubdia on Friday.

As part of an enhanced operation to protect mother Hilsha, the navy personnel also arrested 235 fishermen for their alleged involvement in fishing during the banned period, said a press release of the ISPR.

During the operation, they seized 11 fishing trawlers, huge quantities of Behundi jal",  a type of stationary or fixed bag net that is set up to trap fish in estuarine environments and fishes including Hilsha from their possessions, it said.

The estimated cost of the seized fishing instruments    is TK 19 crore.

The seized fish, trawler and fishing nets were later handed over to Kutubdia Upazila Fisheries Officer. 

The government has imposed a 22-day ban on all types of fishing vessels  from catching, transporting, storing, marketing, buying, selling, or exchanging Hilsa and all other species of fish in Bangladesh's marine fishing zones from 4 October to 25 October.
