Over 2,500-kg of mother Hilsa seized in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS)- Authorities concerned in a drive on Sunday 
seized over 2,500 kilograms of mother Hilsa from four fishing boats, 
returning from the sea, at Akmal Ali Fishery's Ghat in the city.

The operation was a joint effort involving the Naval Police, District 
Fisheries Office, Bangladesh Coast Guard and Chattogram Metropolitan Police 
(CMP) conducted this morning.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadarghat Naval Police Station Mizanur Rahman 
reported that a raid was carried out in the Akmal Ali Ghat area following a 
tip-off about illegal Hilsa fishing during the restricted period.
 
During the operation, 2,500-kg of mother Hilsa were confiscated from four 
fishing boats that were returning from the sea. The individuals involved were 
fined a total of Taka 1.20 lakh.

The seized fish have been given to the district administration for 
distribution to local orphanages, madrasas, and social service organizations, 
according to the Chattogram District Fisheries Officer's Office. 

Mentionable, a 22-day ban on catching, selling, transporting, and storing 
Hilsa has been enforced nationwide from October 4 to October 25 to safeguard 
mother Hilsa during the primary breeding season, the sources added.
