FSCD forms 7-member committee to probe Mirpur fire

DHAKA, Oct 16, 2026 (BSS) – The Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) today formed a seven-member investigation team to probe into Tuesday’s devastating fire in a garments factory and chemical warehouse at Shialbari in capital’s Mirpur area.

Director (operations and maintenance) of the fire service Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury was made head of the committee, FSCD media officer Talha bin Zasim confirmed.

The six other members of the committee are - teacher of BUET’s Chemical Engineering Prof Dr Md Easir Arafat Khan, FSCD deputy director of Dhaka Division Md Saleh Uddin, deputy assistant director Atish Chakma, PO cum Adjutant Fire Service and Civil Defence Training Complex, Mirpur, Dhaka Md Saidul Alam Chowdhury, FSCD Warehouse Inspector Sorah Hossain and Senior Station Officer of Mohammadpur Fire Service Station Md Fasir Uddin. 

The tragic fire broke out on Tuesday morning in a RMG factory and an adjacent chemical warehouse. Firefighters recovered 16 bodies from the garment factory that same day and sent them to the DMCH morgue.

While the blaze in the RMG factory was extinguished on Tuesday, the fire in the chemical warehouse was only partially brought under control by Wednesday afternoon. Fire service officials said it may take considerable time to fully douse the remaining blaze.
