CHATTOGRAM, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS)- A case has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATC) at Anwara Police Station, accusing former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and former State Minister for Finance Wasika Ayesha Khan of chanting 'Joy Bangla' in Anwara upazila of the district today.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Monir Hossain of Anwara Police Station today confirmed that Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Abul Bashar filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against a group of individuals.
The notable accused in the case include Anisuzzaman Chowdhury Roni (52), brother of the former land minister, Ridwanul Karim Chowdhury Sayem alias PS Sayem (38), MA Qayyum Shah (47), Rezaul Karim Anis (43), Asim Kumar Deb (48), Amin Sharif (50), Master Md. Idrich (60), Yasin Hiroo (50), Kazi Mozammel Haque (58), Mohsin Alam (42), Nazrul Islam (40), Borhan Uddin Chowdhury Murad (45), Rashed Newaz Chutt Member (52), Shihabuzzaman alias Sihab Uddin (35), Zafar Uddin Chowdhury alias VP Zafar (60), Chhagir Ahmed Azad (52), Shahazada SM Mohiuddin (55), Imran Hossain Babu alias PS Babu (38), Jasim Uddin Amjadi
(55), MA Hannan Chowdhury Manju (65), Azizul Haque Chowdhury Nosu (55), Sazia Sultana (female member) (40), Rony Ball (36).
A total of 68 people have been named, and the remaining 60-70 are unidentified accused.
According to the case statement, on Thursday around 8:45 pm, leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, along with members of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies, were seen chanting anti-government slogans while carrying weapons like sticks, bricks, rods, axes, and kirichs at Chaumuhani Bazar in Juidandi Union.
They were moving around the market and nearby areas. The police were informed and arrived at the scene around 9:05 pm, causing the participants to disperse.
Police arrested three individuals named Abdul Quader, Abdul Khalek, and Md. Arif. They also seized 20 wooden sticks, 10 broken brick shafts, two locally-made iron axes, and eight pieces of iron.
Confirming the incident, the OC of Anwara Police Station said, "The case was registered this morning, and the operation to apprehend the suspects is underway."
