DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed concern and shock over the devastating fire at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), calling it part of a series of pre-planned incidents aimed at destabilizing the country.

"People believe these fires are not accidents. They are part of a larger conspiracy," he said in a statement issued today.

Referring to recent fire incidents across the country, Fakhrul said the allies of fascists have begun orchestrating violent acts to crush the hopes of students and the public to build a Bangladesh free of discrimination.

He warned both domestic and foreign forces are still active in attempts to destabilize the nation and urged all citizens to remain vigilant and alert against such misdeeds.

He added the nation was freed from dictatorship on August 5, 2024, through immense sacrifices, yet the allies of dictatorship continue to conspire against the people's uprising and its achievements.

The BNP leader called for immediate improvements in firefighting infrastructure and a fair, thorough investigation into the HSIA fire. He demanded "exemplary punishment for those truly responsible" and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the blaze.

A massive fire broke out this afternoon at the HSIA Cargo Village where imported goods are stored. The fire was brought under control after nearly seven hours of joint efforts by 37 fire engines, two air force units, and personnel from the army, navy, BGB, RAB, and civil aviation.

At least 25 members of the Ansar force were injured and taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and Kurmitola General Hospital.
