5,000 police deployed in Uttara following HSIA fire

DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) - In the aftermath of the devastating fire at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), 5,000 police personnel have been deployed across the Uttara area to maintain law and order.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Uttara Division Deputy Commissioner Md Mohidul Islam confirmed the deployment to BSS.

"Five thousand police personnel have been deployed to maintain the law and order," he said.

Alongside police from all six stations under Uttara Division, members of the Bangladesh Army, Air Force, Navy, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are also engaged in coordinated efforts on the ground.

The fire broke out around 2:30pm at the airport's Cargo Village and was brought under control at approximately 9:18pm after nearly seven hours of combined firefighting operations.
