DHAKA, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - Authorities have disconnected several illegal gas connections in the capital's Kamrangirchar area during a special drive conducted by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company PLC as part of its ongoing campaign to curb unauthorized gas use.
The operation, led by Executive Magistrate Milton Roy of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, was carried out on Sunday, said a press release.
During the drive, illegal connections were detected at four spots in Kamrangirchar. Four manufacturing factories and three residential houses were found using illegal gas connections, which were completely severed. These establishments had been consuming an estimated total of 3,100 cubic feet of gas per hour.
The illegal connections were disconnected at four factories located in Jhaulahati Chourasta and the nearby Tara Mia Road and Tara Mia Lane areas of Noyagaon. At the residences of Amir Hossain and Nazir Hossain, 20 and 13 double-burner illegal gas stoves respectively were found and dismantled, while a legal connection at Abul Hossain's residence was cut off due to non-payment of arrears.
A large quantity of equipment used for illegal gas connections - around 100 feet of GI pipe, 20 feet of MS pipe, 15 feet of cable, and one illegal regulator - was seized from the spot.
However, no illegal gas users were found present during the drive, so no immediate penalties could be imposed.
Officials said the drive against illegal gas users will continue, adding that gas theft is a punishable offence and stern legal action will be taken against those involved in wasting the nation's valuable resources.
