DHAKA, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three people in connection with the killing of Md Jobayed Hossain, a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader of Jagannath University (JnU) unit, from the city.
The arrestees are- Md Mahir Rahman (19), Barjis Shabnam Barsha (19) and Fardeen Ahmed Aylan (20), DMP Additional Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam said here taday.
Addressing a press briefing at DMP’s media and public relations centre, he said the murder took place at around 4:30 pm on Sunday (October 19) at the 31st ward of Bangshal Police Station, under the stairwell of Roushan Villa, house no. 15, at Nur Box Lane.
Islam said victim Md Jobayed Hossain visited there for teaching a student-Barjis Shabnam Barsha- as a tutor. They fell in love each other at a stage but Barsha had an affair with Mahir Rahman.
He said Mahir knew one month ago that Barsha was having a love affair with Jobayed and Mahir could not accept the matter. Due to this, a conflict was built between Mahir and Barsha.
At one stage, Barsha instigated Mahir to kill Jobayed and planned how to murder Jobayed, he said.
Mahir shared it with his friend Fardin Ahmed Aylan and bought a switch gear knife at a cost of Tk.500 from Aganagar Bou Bazar, South Keraniganj.
On the day at about 4:30 pm, Jobayed visited Roushan Villa for teaching his student Barsha, where Mahir and his friend Aylan took position under the ground floor of the house.
When Jobayed reached the house, Mahir told Jobayed about his love affair with Barsha then an altercation began. At one stage of altercation, Mahir took out the knife and stabbed Jobayed on his right side neck.
Barsha was standing on the third floor during the entire incident of the murder, said Nazrul Islam.
Immediately after the incident, Bangshal Police Station conducted a raid in different places and arrested Barsha from her residence at about 10:00pm on Sunday.
On Monday morning, Mahir Rahman was arrested from South Keraniganj area, while Fardin from Chamelibagh area at about 10:20pm on the same day.
During the primary interrogation, they gave confessional statement. Officer-in-Charge of Bangshal Police Station said that it was a planned murder.
