Three associates of ex-land minister Saifuzzaman remanded in graft cases

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today placed three associates of former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury on a 10-day remand each in two graft cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The three remanded accused are assistant general managers (AGMs) of Aramit PLC — Md Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Jahangir Alam, and Utpal Paul.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order as police produced the trio before the court and sought seven-day remand in each case. After hearing, the court placed them on five-day remand in each case, totalling 10 days.

According to the case documents, Saifuzzaman allegedly embezzled money from different banks and financial institutions through the accused and laundered it abroad.

ACC Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Md Rubel Hossain filed one case against eight people for embezzling Taka 41.75 crore from the Mohakhali branch of United Commercial Bank (UCB) PLC. Another case was filed by ACC DAD Md Sajib Ahmed against eight people for allegedly taking a bribe of Taka 60 crore from UCB PLC’s Foreign Exchange Branch.
