CHATTOGRAM, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) – Former Awami League (AL) lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury from Chattogram-6 (Raozan) constituency has been shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over suspicious transactions and illegal acquisition of assets.

Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Hasanul Islam issued the order after a hearing on Wednesday. The accused appeared before the court virtually from prison.

Earlier, on September 29, the ACC requested the Chattogram Metropolitan Special Judge (Acting) Md. Abdur Rahman to show his arrest in a case involving suspicious transactions totaling Tk 108 crore 64 lakh 85 thousand 790 and illegal assets amounting to Tk 5 crore 94 lakh 92 thousand 772.

The case was filed by Deputy Assistant Director Md. Nizam Uddin at the ACC's Chattogram Integrated District Office-1 on July 13. ACC Public Prosecutor Mohammad Kabir Hossain confirmed the arrest to BSS.

The case statement reveals suspicious transactions totaling Tk 108,648,790 in 12 bank accounts linked to ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury. These transactions were deemed unusual and suspected to be an attempt to conceal wealth illegally obtained through corruption and bribery.

Fazle Karim was arrested on September 12 last year while allegedly trying to flee to India. He was apprehended by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the Abdullahpur area of the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria district. Since then, he has been in jail.
