RANGPUR, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen has said the party is open to forming an alliance in the interest of the nation and the country, with the goal of taking Bangladesh forward.
"NCP is preparing to contest the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections in all 300 seats with its own capabilities and from its own position. We are also open to contesting the elections in an alliance for the interest of the nation and the country," he said.
Akhter made the remarks while speaking to local reporters after an election courtyard meeting in Parul Union of Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur this afternoon.
He said the NCP is holding discussions with different political parties on various issues but has yet to reach any specific decision.
"But we have not left any shortcomings in our preparations. We are preparing for the elections individually," he added.
The NCP member secretary said the party aims to nominate candidates who will genuinely think about the people.
"We have formed a team to conduct the elections. They are distributing nomination papers. Those who are aspiring for nomination are collecting those papers," he said.
Akhter said the NCP expects to publish a preliminary list of candidates after November 15.
When asked about the party's stance on the referendum and the implementation of the July Charter, he said the most important task now is to issue the order to implement the July Charter properly.
"We have not yet been able to clarify how the government will issue the order to implement the July Charter, or what it will include," he said.
"If the government issues the July Charter order correctly, then the crisis can be resolved. Through this, the question of the referendum will also be decided," he added.
However, he warned that if the July Charter order is not properly implemented, the referendum alone would not ensure its sustainability. "We think that the government will quickly issue the July Charter order," he said.
Earlier, addressing the courtyard meeting, Akhter Hossen said that if the July Charter issue is not resolved before the Jatiya Sangsad elections, the legitimacy of the elections will be questioned.
The NCP supports holding a referendum before the national elections, giving priority to the July Charter, he said.
He accused the fallen fascist Awami League of committing atrocities against the people of Bangladesh and said, "The Awami League, which has committed genocide against the people of Bangladesh, is again wreaking havoc. NCP will not allow Awami League to come to Bengali soil in any way."
Stressing the need to bring the country under a proper system to curb irregularities and corruption, he said national resources have been smuggled abroad instead of being spent on development.
"If the same amount of money spent on the Padma Bridge was used transparently, 20 Padma Bridges could have been built," he said.
He further said that in the past, anyone who spoke the truth was thrown into jail and kept in a "mirror room."
"Now we are protected from oppression, but not from irregularities. To benefit the country, we have to run it systematically -- that is what the NCP wants to do," he said.
Akhter assured that if the NCP comes to power, public funds will be spent transparently and laws will be enacted for the welfare of the people.
"Also, to prevent the misappropriation of public money, signboards will be placed at union and upazila parishads to inform citizens about how much money is being allocated to mosques, temples, and other sectors," he said.
He further pledged that various allowances would be distributed to the people with dignity using taxpayers' money, public service centers would be established in rural areas, and medical services would be ensured for all.
Local NCP leaders and activists were present at the events.
