BRTA to introduce automation for vehicle fitness: Chairman

DHAKA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS)- Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Abu Mamtaj Sad Uddin Ahmed today said that the BRTA is going to introduce automation while issuing fitness certificate of the vehicles.

“The automation for vehicle fitness certificate will be introduced under the safe system approach,” he said while speaking at a views-exchange programme on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims at Banani in the city.

The BRTA organized the view exchange programme in collaboration with the National Heart Foundation. 

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury delivered speech as the special guest.

BRTA chairman said 60-hour training has been made mandatory for motor vehicle drivers. BRTA will not issue license for drivers without 60 hours training.

The meeting was told that about 92 percent road accident happens in lower income and middle income countries, which is three times higher than developed countries.

BRTA chairman said the government will also install a central road crash data system along with preparing and implementing a manual to control speed at local level.

Representatives of Dhaka Ahsania Mission, BRAC, CIPRB, Steps, global Health Advocacy Incubator, Dhaka International University, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and BNNRC joined the function.

Besides, representatives of Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, DTCA, police headquarters, BRTC, DMP, Highway Police, Uttar and South city corporations, social welfare department, NITOR, WHO, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation and Bangladesh Truck-Covered Owners Association were present.
