Rashed, Rana elected president, GS of MUJ

KHULNA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) - Rashidul Islam, Khulna Bureau Chief of the Daily Manabzamin and Abdur Razzak Rana, Khulna Divisional Chief of the Daily Sangram, have been elected president and general secretary of the Khulna Metropolitan Union of Journalists (MUJ) in its biannual election.

They, along with five others, were declared elected uncontested today as no alternative candidates were nominated for any of the seven posts.

The other office bearers elected are Vice-President Muhammad Nuruzzaman, Khulna District Correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha; Joint Secretary Md Ashraful Islam Nur, Khulna Correspondent of Ekushey Television; Treasurer Rokibul Islam Moti, Khulna Correspondent of SA Television and Executive Members Md Ershad Ali, Khulna Bureau Chief of the Daily Naya Diganta and KM Ziaus Sadat, Executive Editor of the Daily Probartan.

The election was overseen by a three-member committee headed by GM Rafiqul Islam, senior union member and Khulna Bureau Chief of the Financial Express. 

The other members were HM Alaudddin, former MUJ general secretary and Khulna Bureau Chief of the Daily Kaler Kantho, and Mizanur Rahman Milton, Editor of the Daily Khulnancha.

Following the announcement, the newly elected leadership reiterated their commitment to strengthening the ongoing "No Wage Board, No Media" movement, promoting media freedom, and protecting journalists' rights in line with the 39-point declaration of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists.

According to the MUJ constitution, the outgoing committee led by President Md Anisuzzaman and Acting General Secretary Abul Hasan Himaloy will hand over responsibilities to the new body within the next three days.
