Police arrest 15 over alleged sabotage plan from Savar, Dhamrai and Ashulia

SAVAR, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested 15 members of the banned 
Awami League (AL) and its affiliated groups from Savar and Dhamrai on charges 
of planning acts of sabotage during a lockdown enforced by the banned 
organization.

Inspector (Investigation) of Savar Model Police Station Helaluzzaman 
confirmed the arrests this evening.

From Savar municipal area police arrested Savar Thana Chhatra League (BCL) 
president Shaneem Hossain, 25, Savar Sadar Union BCL general secretary Abu 
Saleh, 24, this afternoon following a tip-off.

From Ashulia, including leaders of local units of the banned AL and Jubo 
League (JL), were arrested today.

Police said the detainees also face earlier charges related to violence and 
killings.

They are: Shimulia JL joint general secretary Harun or Rashid, 37, JL member 
Sakti Prashad Ghosh, 48, 3 no. ward AL office secretary Prashad Ghosh, 58, 
union AL member Vulanath Sutradhar, 48, Ward no. 4 AL member Shariful Islam 
Gafur, 58, Pathalia Union's 5 no. ward JL publication secretary Ashraful 
Islam Najrul, 38, Yarpur union JL information secretary Mamun Dewan,36. 

From Dhamrai upazila here, police arrested nine local Awami AL and JL leaders 
on similar sabotage allegations.

The arrestees are: Ward no. 9 AL vice-president Lutfor Rahman, 60, member 
Iman Ali, 52, Suwapur union ward no. 6 AL general secretary Amjad Hossen, 50, 
Somvag union AL member Basir Uddin, 38, Union JL joint secretary Monir 
Hossen, 40, and Balia union AL vice president Abul Hashem, 46. 
  
Police said legal action has already been taken against all arrestees.
