DHAKA, April 1, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul
Haque today (Wednesday) visited the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and
Sylhet District Stadium.

After visiting the stadiums, he told reporters that if everything goes well,
the Prime Minister would inaugurate the 'Notun Kuri Sports' programme at the
Sylhet District Stadium on April 30. At the same time, the programme would be
launched simultaneously in all 64 districts across the country, the minister
added.

Aminul said 'Notun Kuri Sports' programme will include seven events including
football and cricket. The main aim of this initiative is to involve the
younger generation in sports and bring out talent from the grassroots level.

From the next academic year, there are plans to make sports compulsory from
the fourth grade, he continued.

In addition, a system of sports scholarships would be provided for talented
players.

The State Minister said the distribution of sports allowances and sports
cards to national team players in each sport has already begun from March 30
last and the remaining players would get the allowance within the next seven
working days.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the current condition of the stadiums in
Sylhet, the State Minister said there have been widespread irregularities in
the name of development in the past, which is reflected in the dilapidated
condition of the Sylhet District Stadium.

He also said that necessary instructions have been given to the concerned for
quick renovation.
